Introduction

Ecoparc de Barcelona is an environmental facility dedicated to comprehensive treatment of solid waste in the metropolitan Barcelona area.

The population of metropolitan Barcelona is responsible for the annual production of 1.6 million tonnes of solid waste (excluding industrial waste). Ecoparc de Barcelona treats approximately 12% of this waste.

Through diverse treatments such as selection of recyclable materials, composting and methanization, our mission is to make use of organic and undifferentiated waste (brown and gray containers).

Our flagship plant is committed to serving the city and municipalities that carry out selective collection, within the framework of the Metropolitan Municipal Waste Management Programme.

Ecoparc de Barcelona is the fruit of intense research. As a result, it has successfully implemented the most efficient and innovative technologies for all its processes and been able to incorporate a wide range of environmental safety and control mechanisms into its activity. The architectural design of the factory adds a distinctive element of undeniable quality, integrating our facilities harmoniously into the industrial landscape.

Ecoparc de Barcelona has set the following objectives for itself

• Limit the environmental impact of the plant.
• Improve plant safety and health conditions.
• Adapt to changes in the quality and quantity of the waste we receive.
• Optimize production of biogas.
• Maximize production of compost.
• Minimize factory discharge (waste that cannot be made use of).
• Minimize the percentage of organic matter in factory discharge.
• Recover the maximum amount of recyclable material possible.

In addition, the plant will continue adapting to changes in the quality and amount of waste that comes in, use water and energy efficiently, and guarantee not to contaminate the air of the surrounding area with offensive odours.
